So what is color guard, exactly? Color guard (or Guard, for short) is now often referred to as “The Sport of the Arts”! It is traditionally the visual representation of the music. Modern color guards use flags, rifles, sabers, swing flags and other pieces of equipment pertaining to the music, as well as a mix of dance styles. Beyond the performance, color guard is a great extracurricular activity which is fantastic exercise, allows for travel, shows school spirit, and most importantly is a ton of FUN!
For the 2022 fall marching season, practices start June 22 and run every Wednesday and Thursday evenings during the summer before camps. After camps, practices are every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Students are also expected to attend Guard Camp (August 5), Band Camp (July 18-22 & August 8-12), and all performances. Please visit our Calendar of Events for a list of all practices and performances!
The marching band and color guard perform at local parades, home football games and statewide marching band competitions.
